Helen Plum Library follows all state and local guidelines to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and help keep our community and staff safe. The following measures are being taken (Updated as of 11.19.20)
Effective Fri, Nov 20, the library building is open for Plum Pickup Service by appointment only. In-person browsing, computer usage, and research is suspended until further notice.
Currently, COVID-19 cases in the Lombard community are on the rise. To encourage social distancing and to slow the spread of the COVID-19, the Library is following local health directives by limiting in-person services.
Library hours have been restricted In order to appropriately staff the building, responsibly handle returned materials, and provide safe service for both the community and staff. As of Fri, Nov 20, the building is closed to the public, but Plum Pickup Service is available.
Library Cards (Renewing and Applying)
Library cards are being issued and renewed remotely for residents and businesses. A library card is available to anyone who lives within the Helen Plum Library District. To apply for a new card or renew your expired card, click here.
Plum Pickup Service
Plum Pickup Service allows library cardholders to place a hold on items for pickup while maintaining safe social distancing, much like the curbside pickup service that many restaurants offer. To find out more about Plum Pickup, click here.

Returning Library Materials
The Library’s outdoor book drops are open. Overdue fines will continue to be waived during this time.
Thanks to the hard work and ingenuity of our staff, many of our programs have gone virtual! Find our current lineup here.
We have also introduced new virtual programs, including:
- DIY Storytimes: Do you miss coming to storytime? We miss it, too! With a little imagination, you can do it yourself! We’ll send the tools to have storytime at home, twice per week. Emails will include: Stories & Rhymes, Songs, and Early Literacy Tips, all centered around a different theme each time, sent straight to your inbox in an easy-to-use email format!
- Songs, Rhymes, and Bouncy Times Video Storytimes: New videos every Friday! Learn storytime songs and rhymes at home from your favorite librarians. Subscribe to our YouTube Channel so you don’t miss out!
- Virtual Book Clubs: Helen Plum Library Book Discussion Group, Virtual Library Lounge and the new Virtual Book Club are available for socially distant book chat. A great way to socialize and chat about the recent book club titles!
