Helen Plum By Appointment

Helen Plum Library will reopen its doors on Mon, Jun 29 by appointment for Helen Plum Library cardholders only. We are thrilled to invite you back into the building in a way that keeps safety and community in mind. The Library is going to look different when we reopen. COVID-19 is still impacting our daily lives and we must follow standards set by the State of Illinois. 

Here’s what you can expect: 

  • Patrons and staff are required to wear masks while using the Library. 
  • Patrons are asked that they spend a maximum of one hour per day in the Library. 
  • Staff will be available to assist with checkouts and reference services. 
  • Library services are limited to: 
    • Material browsing and checkouts.
    • Computer reservations.
    • Access to printing, copying, scanning and faxing.
    • The Quiet Reading Room, Robin’s Nest, Study Rooms and Auditorium will remain closed. Magazines and newspapers are available on the first floor. 
    • Seating is limited. 
    • We have increased cleaning, particularly in high contact areas. 
    • Plexiglass has been added to service desks. 
    • State standards for social distancing in the reopened areas reduces our capacity to 50.
    • Notary and passports services are unavailable at this time.

Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat: 9am−4pm
Tue, Thu: 1−8pm


There are three types of appointments available:

  • Computer Reservation: An individual cardholder may reserve a computer for 45 minutes. (1 reservation per day) 
  • General Library Visit: An individual cardholder may reserve one hour to browse collections, check out materials as well as access printing, copying, scanning and faxing services. (1 reservation per day) 
  • Family Visit: A family may reserve one hour to browse collections, check out materials and pick up Summer Reading prizes. When possible, families will be contacted prior to their appointment to plan for Summer Reading prize pickup. (1 reservation per week)

As we begin to reopen the building and expand services, cardholders are encouraged to continue accessing ebooks & audiobooks, digital magazines & newspapers and our online resources remotely. Additionally, Plum Pickup Service and Live Chat with a Librarian are still available.
