Medicare Made Clear

It’s that time of year!  Time for Medicare Open Enrollment for 2018.  Open enrollment is from October 15 to December 7, 2017.  During this time, all people with Medicare can make changes to their health and prescription drug plans for the next year.  Starting January 1, your new plan or changes to coverage begins.

In order to learn more, we will be providing a free “Medicare Made Clear” program on September 18 at 1 pm.  This program is for individuals who currently have Medicare or will be eligible for Medicare in the near future.  The program will provide a review of Original Medicare, what it covers, doesn’t cover, and the coverage options that are available to Medicare beneficiaries.  The presentation will run for 1 hour, with a Q&A session.  This program is being presented by a UnitedHealthcare licensed representative.  A Helen Plum Library card is not necessary to attend the program.  Click here to register!

While this is a group program, there is a State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) that offers free local, personalized counseling to people with Medicare.  The SHIP contact in Illinois is through the Illinois Department on Aging. Visit their website here.

In DuPage County, there are a few places that have a SHIP counselor on site.  One such place is an organization called Achieving Independence and Mobility (AIM) CIL.  Located in Downers Grove, one of their services is providing free SHIP/Medicare & Medicaid counseling.  For more information, please visit their website.
