Erin Bigger's picture

Leonard Norman Cohen was born September 21, 1934, in Westmount, Quebec and has passed at the age of 82.

Best known for his lyrical song Hallelujah, he learned to play the guitar as a teen. Revered and highly prolific, his career spanned nearly 50 years. His son wrote to Rolling Stone yesterday "My father passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles with the knowledge that he had completed what he felt was one of his greatest records, he was writing up until his last moments with his unique brand of humor." Ordained as Buddhist monk at Mt. Baldy Zen Center outside of Los Angeles he took the Dharma name Jikan ("silence") over twenty years ago. He will remembered for his humanity, good grace and influential poetry. Visit our catalog for selections on featuring Leonard Cohen.
