Youth Resources

  • LOTE: Discover digital books in Languages Other Than English (LOTE) that allow children to experience stories in nearly 50 world languages. Each book also comes with English translations to aid learning.
  • Scholastic Teachables: Get unlimited access to award-winning activities, lesson plans, clip art, customizable games, and other teaching resources.
  • BookFlix: Children can develop literacy skills with animated storybooks that pair with nonfiction texts.
  • TeenBookCloud: Find read-along chapter books, graphic novels, educational videos, and audiobooks for middle-schoolers and teens.

Adult Resources

  • HeritageQuest: Find your ancestors or discover a place’s past using this collection of sources with coverage dating back to the 1700s.
  • A to Z: Use tools in this reference and marketing database for email marketing, job searches, mailing lists, sales leads, and more.
  • NoveList: Find information about books that includes expert recommendations, reviews, articles, lists, and more.

Teen Do Something Challenge

Through April 30, 2023
Grades 6–12
Do something to: Help yourself, help others, help the larger community. Earn virtual badges, complete activities, and earn volunteer service hours. This year, earn points by completing activities. For every 10 points, you earn 1 hour of volunteer service. Each month, special badges will be unlocked, so be sure to check for new opportunities.

Explore More Illinois

A cultural pass program that allows HPL cardholders to get free and discounted admission to museums, park districts, historical societies, performing and visual arts centers, and other attractions.
Visit the Explore More Illinois website, log in with your library card credentials, and browse for passes by date or attractions. Make your reservation and print or download your pass shortly before your visit.
