Seasonal Assistant

Position Details
Hours: 16-24 hours per week. Weekly hours vary depending on departmental needs; includes evenings and weekends. 
Salary: $10.15/hr
Helen Plum Library is seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join our Youth Services team in a seasonal position from June 1 through August 4. The right candidate excels at listening, understanding and communicating with library patrons of all ages. An approachable and welcoming attitude is essential! Seasonal Assistants work with Library Staff and Teen Volunteers to help families sign up for our summer reading program, tracking progress and distributing prizes all while using an online tracking tool. Additional projects may include assisting staff in preparing craft and activity materials for youth programs.


  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Computer skills

Substitute Facilities Monitor

Position Details
Hours: Part-time, approximately 10 hours per week
Salary: $14 per hour, depending on qualifications
Helen Plum Library is seeking an energetic, punctual individual to fulfill the position of Part-Time Substitute Facilities Monitor. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly environment for the patrons and staff of the Library. A positive attitude and willingness to work with others is desired.


  • Maintains order to ensure the safety and comfort of Library patrons and staff
  • Assists Library staff and management as needed
  • Writes incident reports and notifies proper authorities when necessary
  • Prepares and sets up rooms for meetings
  • Maintains general awareness of what is happening in the Library
  • Secures the building at closing
  • Performs minor maintenance as needed

Abilities, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Able to deal with angry or disruptive patrons in an authoritative, pleasant, mature and courteous manner
  • Able to lift boxes and move furnishings
  • Neat appearance
  • Energetic and punctual
  • Able to stand for long periods of time


  • Available to work nights and weekends
  • Basic computer skills
  • High School degree
