About the Artist

Marilyn Peretti of Glen Ellyn, a graduate of Purdue University, did not major in art, but delves into art as an avocation. Her careers have included teaching young children and managing a large volunteer program in a nearby healthcare facility. She feels blessed to have an art talent to focus on in her private time. She exhibited with the Nature Artists’ Guild of the Morton Arboretum for 26 years. In 2005, she exhibited 30 paintings of cranes at the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, WI, selling 18.

In retirement, she has moved on to portraits and other subjects. Recently, she finished a painting of the White House in D.C. when the President held a candlelight memorial for the first 500,000 people who died of COVID-19. She cherishes the signed thank-you note from President Biden, to whom she sent the painting. Earlier large watercolors of the Perry Mastodon skull and jawbone reside at Wheaton College, where the Glen Ellyn-found skeleton is on display. The recent exhibit at College of DuPage of Frida Kahlo’s paintings inspired her to paint Frida’s portrait. She painted two, and one was sold to a local resident.

She calls this exhibit “Good People” since the works depict people she admires for their dedication to making the world a better place. While she is skilled at using watercolors and oil with cold wax, these are acrylic paint on stretched canvas, a versatile and flexible medium. Her painting series can be found in her online gallery.
